Twenty five million pairs of socks each year are sold. Crescent is the oldest hoisery mill in operation and is family owned. Crescent opened it's doors in 1902. The original building was built for $2,500 using bricks that were hand-made and baked on the site. The building was 40' x 60' and did not have electricity. In order to get power in the mill a steam engine was used to power the knitting machines. Through the years, Crescent was successful in their sales. In 1966 a fire ruined the plant. Rebuilding began and business has continued grow. Crescent is now in their fourth generation and the building square footage is 100,000.
